This notice explains what happens to the information you send when you enquire about tutoring. It is written to be read, not to be skirted around, and it describes what this site actually does rather than what a template assumes it does.
RKTutor is run by Rochelle Kirkum-Turnbull, who is the data controller for any information you send. You can reach her at rochelle@rktutor.com about anything on this page.
This is worth stating plainly, because most websites do the opposite. The enquiry form on this site is not connected to a form service, a database or an analytics platform. When you complete it, the form simply opens your own email application with the details filled in. You then press send, in your own mail app, as you would with any other email.
Nothing is transmitted to this website, and no third party receives or stores your enquiry. It travels from your email provider to Rochelle's inbox, and nowhere else. If you close your email app without pressing send, nothing has been sent at all.
Whatever you choose to put in that email. The form asks for:
Only the name, email address and description are required. Everything else can be left blank.
Enquiries are usually made by a parent or guardian about a child, and the free-text box often contains details about that child: their year group, how they are finding a subject, and sometimes their difficulties or diagnoses.
Please share only what is useful for judging whether tutoring will help. There is no need to include a child's full name, school, address or date of birth at the enquiry stage. Information about children is treated with particular care, is never used for marketing, and is never shared with anyone.
Solely to reply to your enquiry, discuss what is needed, and if you go ahead, to arrange and deliver tutoring. In data protection terms the basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, and afterwards the legitimate interest of running a tutoring practice and keeping ordinary business records.
Your details are never sold, never shared and never added to a marketing list. You will not receive a newsletter because you asked a question.
Enquiries that do not lead to tutoring are deleted within 12 months. Where tutoring goes ahead, records are kept for the duration of the arrangement and for two years afterwards, so that progress can be picked up again if a student returns. You can ask for your information to be deleted sooner at any time.
Two services are unavoidably involved in any website and any email, and neither is given your enquiry to process:
Email you send reaches Rochelle through the email providers involved, in the same way as any other email you send to anyone.
This site sets no cookies. There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels and no social media embeds. Nothing follows you after you leave. This is why you have not been shown a cookie banner: there is nothing to consent to.
You can ask to see what information is held about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, or to object to it being held at all. Email rochelle@rktutor.com and it will be dealt with within one month.
If you are in the United Kingdom and are unhappy with how your information has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. Please do raise it directly first if you can, as most things are quicker to put right that way.
If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes affecting existing students will be communicated by email.
